Senior Database Administrator

About the role

This role oversees the design, development and maintenance of the organization's databases, keeping them secure, scalable and highly available. It covers the full data infrastructure, delivering reliable IT services that support business operations and growth.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain enterprise-level database systems supporting business applications
• Monitor database health, availability, integrity and reliability; tune queries and indexes to fix performance bottlenecks
• Develop and enforce database policies, standards and best practices
• Plan capacity and scalability, and troubleshoot complex issues with minimal downtime
• Maintain backup and recovery procedures, test them regularly, and run disaster recovery and business continuity plans
• Implement security best practices and ensure compliance with data protection regulations such as GDPR and the UAE Data Protection Law
• Manage user roles, access controls and authentication
• Oversee database migration projects, including on-premises to cloud transitions, and work with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra)
• Collaborate with application developers, network engineers and system administrators, and keep configuration and security documentation up to date
• Train and mentor junior database administrators, deliver services within SLAs, and report on performance, security compliance and capacity to senior management
• Support cloud-based databases on AWS, Azure and Oracle Cloud, and take part in IT audits

Required profile

• Minimum of 6 years of experience in database administration and management
• Expertise in disaster recovery and business continuity planning
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology or a related field; a master's degree is a plus
• Preferred certifications: Oracle OCP, Microsoft Azure Database Administrator Associate, AWS Database Specialty, Server+, A+, CCNA, Avaya, ITIL Foundation
