Senior Design Engineer – Composites

About the role

The Senior Design Engineer – Composites will lead the design and manufacturing of advanced composite components for high‑technology autonomous systems. This role combines hands‑on engineering, process optimisation and cross‑functional collaboration to deliver cost‑effective, high‑performance products.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design reviews, critique new concepts and select optimal manufacturing processes.
• Analyse and compare manufacturing methods, presenting clear recommendations to project leadership.
• Create and implement engineering changes and work instructions on the shop floor, ensuring compliance throughout production.
• Drive material and process selection, designing alternative processes to improve quality, efficiency and cost competitiveness.
• Monitor project‑by‑project production output, perform root‑cause analysis and develop permanent solutions.
• Provide technical feedback on designs released for production and generate reports on process improvements.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years of production engineering experience specializing in composites, preferably in aerospace, defence or precision engineering.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Materials Science or related engineering discipline.
• Experience with DFMA principles, Six Sigma or lean manufacturing methodologies.
• Strong communication and leadership skills, with proven ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.
• Familiarity with SAP or other ERP systems and advanced CAD tools.

Required skills

• 3D design and advanced CAD modelling.
• Composite materials knowledge, including chemistry, resins and manufacturing processes.
• SAP or comparable ERP software.
• Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) techniques.
• Six Sigma and lean manufacturing methodologies.
