About the role
ARX is expanding its Middle East presence and seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer for its Dubai site office. The role involves independently owning the electrical scope of large, complex projects, delivering compliant and reliable power systems.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and develop MV distribution, LV interfaces, substations, transformers, switchgear, standby generation, UPS, critical power, earthing and lightning protection designs.
- Prepare and verify electrical calculations and studies such as load schedules, cable sizing, voltage drop, load flow, short‑circuit, protection coordination, relay settings and arc‑flash analyses.
- Produce design reports, specifications, single‑line diagrams, drawings, BOQs and respond to technical queries.
- Prepare DEWA 11kV and substation submissions, manage authority approvals through to energisation.
- Define standby generator, synchronisation, UPS and critical power architecture with resilience and maintainability considerations.
- Specify explosion‑proof and hazardous‑area requirements for classified zones and ensure equipment certification.
- Review vendor submittals, datasheets, FAT/SAT procedures and test certificates against design.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, HVAC, fire protection, ELV/ICT, civil, BIM/CAD, construction) and lead design review meetings.
- Provide design support during testing, commissioning, energisation planning and handover.
Required profile
- Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering; chartered status is a plus.
- Minimum 12 years of electrical engineering experience, at least 6 years on MV distribution and power systems in the UAE.
- Proven ability to independently deliver full electrical design scope of large projects.
- Hands‑on experience with DEWA regulations, 11kV submissions, substation approvals, metering, load schedules, NOCs and energisation.
- Experience with airport or aviation facilities, including critical power, substations, hangars or MRO areas.
Required skills
- MV and LV power system design, load flow, short‑circuit and arc‑flash studies.
- DEWA 11kV regulations and approval processes.
- Design of substations, switchgear, ring main units, transformers, protection coordination, relay settings.
- Standby generators, synchronisation, UPS and critical power architecture.
- Earthing and lightning protection design.
- Explosion‑proof/ATEX requirements, IEC 60079 equipment selection and certification.
- Knowledge of IEC 60076, IEC 60079, IEC 61439, BS 7671/NEC, IEEE 141/242 and relevant UAE codes.
- Review of vendor documents, FAT/SAT procedures and commissioning documentation.
