Senior Engineer - Optical Payload

About the role

FADA is seeking a motivated electro‑optical engineer to work on Earth observation satellite payloads, covering design, development, integration and validation of optical units and imaging systems throughout the mission lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in the design and development of spaceborne electro‑optical imaging systems, including telescopes, detectors and imaging electronics.
• Define and verify system‑level requirements such as resolution, SNR, MTF, dynamic range and radiometric accuracy.
• Support optical design analysis, stray‑light modelling and performance simulation using tools such as Zemax or Code V.
• Collaborate with vendors for selection, interface definition and performance evaluation of payload components.
• Contribute to payload integration, environmental testing and analysis of test data to validate performance.
• Develop and maintain payload performance budgets (optical, radiometric, power, thermal) and support AIT campaigns.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in optics, physics or a related engineering field.
• At least 5 years of experience designing and developing EO payloads or optical systems for space applications.
• Proven experience with optical design and analysis software such as Zemax or Code V.

Required skills

• Optical design, stray‑light modelling and performance simulation.
• Familiarity with detectors and imaging sensors (CCD, CMOS, TDI, SWIR, MWIR, LWIR).
• Understanding of electronic interfaces, data acquisition and onboard image‑processing pipelines.
• Knowledge of space standards (NASA, ESA) and space‑grade components.
