Senior Home Automation System Designer

About the role

A media solutions company in Dubai is looking for a Senior Designer to lead and oversee full-cycle system design for home automation projects, covering lighting, HVAC control, AV distribution, security, access control, cinema rooms and networking. The role runs from initial brief to approved-for-construction drawings, provides technical leadership and mentorship to Designers and CAD Operators, and supports the continuous improvement of the design function.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse pre-design documents, identify missing information and follow up until they are submitted on time.
• Produce detailed design documentation such as single-line diagrams, rack layouts, cable schedules, Wi-Fi access point maps, elevations, equipment schedules and device placement plans using AutoCAD, Revit or equivalent CAD tools.
• Develop Bills of Materials, issue structured RFQ packages to the Supply Chain team and validate returned cost prices.
• Take part in value-engineering exercises with the Supply Chain team, proposing approved alternatives that meet performance standards and cost targets.
• Manage the end-to-end review of consultant comments, coordinate design and cost impacts and close all comments without affecting project timelines.
• Attend design-coordination meetings with architects, interior designers, MEP consultants and main contractors, and act as technical lead for Designers and CAD Operators.
• Perform peer reviews of layouts, schematics, diagrams, elevations, schedules and construction drawings, and coach team members on standards and quality.
• Help the Director of Engineering identify training needs and contribute to development plans.
• Validate constructability, coordination and technical compliance of design packages, conduct site surveys and technical assessments, and review shop drawings and technical submittals, issuing RFIs and design clarifications.
• Maintain a live design register and version-controlled document library, and support the commissioning phase with sequence of operations, scene settings, programming narratives, as-built documentation and handover packages.
• Stay ahead of industry trends such as Matter, Thread and Wi-Fi 7, and present findings to the design and commercial teams.

Required profile

• BSc / BEng in Electrical, Electronic, Systems or Mechatronic Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience designing integrated home automation or building control systems.
• Demonstrable full-project ownership from design.
• Experience issuing BOM and RFQ documentation to the procurement team.

Required skills

• Proficiency in at least two major control platforms (Crestron, Control4, Lutron or KNX, multiroom audio, network infrastructure, security).
• Advanced CAD skills, AutoCAD minimum, Revit preferred.
