Senior Java Developer - Telecoms Data Services

About the role

A software vendor in the security space, hired through a client, is looking for an experienced backend developer with a telecoms background. You will design, build and run high-volume data services, taking end-to-end ownership: shaping new features with users, shipping them in short iterations and keeping them reliable in production.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build services that process and store large volumes of data, including telecoms signalling and media traffic, choosing the right storage technology for each job
• Maintain and improve existing services for performance, stability and data integrity
• Troubleshoot production issues across code, infrastructure, networks and databases
• Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code within a peer-review culture
• Work closely with cross-functional teams, customers and end users

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional software development, with Java (8+) as the primary language
• Telecoms experience, with hands-on knowledge of 3GPP standards and SIP/RTP protocols
• Proven track record building distributed, microservice-based and event-driven systems
• Strong grasp of architecture, design patterns and trade-offs

Required skills

• Solid experience with relational (SQL) and NoSQL databases
• Docker, Linux and command-line proficiency
• Observability with Prometheus and Grafana
• Understanding of Mechanical Sympathy and working knowledge of low-level network programming
• Nice to have: IMS, VoLTE/VoNR, Diameter or SS7; Spring Boot; Kafka, RabbitMQ, NSQ or ActiveMQ; MongoDB and Elasticsearch; Spark, Iceberg or data warehouse design; S3-style object storage; Ansible and Kubernetes; Python
