Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Bearings, Sumps & Oil Systems

About the role

EDGE, an advanced technology group headquartered in the UAE, is hiring a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for its Bearings, Sumps and Oil Systems team in Abu Dhabi. The engineer is responsible for the mechanical design, integration and lifecycle development of rotating support and lubrication systems in turbofan propulsion architectures, including bearing chambers, sump structures, oil feed and scavenge lines, sealing interfaces and related thermal and structural design. The role works closely with systems, thermal, structural and manufacturing teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design of bearing compartments, sump housings, oil nozzles, scavenge features and support structures for rotating shafts and modules
• Develop and manage 3D CAD models and 2D drawings of oil feed and scavenge systems, bearing supports, sump pressurization and ventilation elements, and dynamic seals, flinger rings and deflectors
• Collaborate with stress and thermal analysts on fatigue and static strength, oil coking and sludge risks, and vibration-induced wear and leakage
• Design and integrate dynamic sealing systems (labyrinth, brush, carbon face seals) and support oil system routing strategies
• Implement Design for Manufacturability across forged, cast and machined parts, define tolerances and interfaces, and support supplier qualification and tooling reviews
• Prepare design reports, stack-ups, failure mode assessments, risk mitigation plans and FAA/EASA certification documentation, and support PDR, CDR and hardware readiness reviews
• Work with lubrication, engine integration, test and maintenance teams, and explore technologies such as additively manufactured oil channels and self-pressurizing sump designs

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering; Master's degree preferred, especially in rotating machinery, thermal systems or tribology
• 7-10 years of experience designing bearing, sump or oil system components in aerospace or turbomachinery environments
• Full lifecycle experience from concept through test, certification and field support

Required skills

• Proficiency in 3D CAD (CATIA, NX or equivalent)
• Familiarity with FEA tools for structural and thermal evaluation
• Understanding of tribology, oil flow dynamics and sealing technology
• Knowledge of FAA/EASA standards and aerospace quality requirements
• Strong GD&T knowledge and technical drawing preparation
• Preferred: oil system test rig experience, vibration analysis and rotor dynamics, digital twin and health monitoring tools
