Senior Optomechanical Engineer – Wireless Communication

About the role

Technology Innovation Institute is seeking a Senior Optomechanical Engineer to lead research and development of wireless optical communication systems. The role involves designing high-precision optomechanical components, managing thermal and vibration challenges, and delivering rugged outdoor enclosures.

Key responsibilities

• Design and fabricate kinematic mounts and flexures for lenses, prisms and mirrors with sub-micron alignment tolerance.
• Perform thermal management (STOP) analysis and select matched-CTE materials to maintain focus stability.
• Conduct vibration and structural FEA to ensure optical stability under wind and transport loads.
• Integrate fast steering mirrors, piezo actuators and motorized gimbals while managing cabling and thermal loads.
• Engineer IP67-rated enclosures with optical windows, desiccants and stray-light baffles.
• Execute hands-on alignment and metrology in clean-room environments using autocollimators, interferometers and laser trackers.
• Design passive and active cooling solutions for high-power EDFAs and beacon lasers.
• Develop detailed CAD models (SolidWorks/Creo) with strict GD&T for manufacturing.
• Prototype, assemble and test optomechanical assemblies, collaborating with DFM/DFA teams.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years of experience in optomechanical design and integration.
• Proven ability to work in clean-room environments and perform precision alignment.
• Willingness to travel overseas occasionally for conferences, supplier visits or training.
