Senior Principal Piping Designer

About the role

McDermott is hiring a Senior Principal Piping Designer in Dubai. The role completes piping design assignments and directs the work of others, solving complex problems and acting as a subject matter expert. It works autonomously within established procedures and leads teams to find innovative solutions, reporting to the Lead Piping Engineer and Project Engineer.

Key responsibilities

• Perform process plant piping design in Pre-FEED, FEED or Detailed Design phases, considering constructability, economics and operation, and adhere to safety, quality and maintenance standards
• Set priorities, plan resources and lead the design team to finish within schedule and budget
• Develop clash-free 3D models and coordinate with other disciplines; close review comments
• Act as discipline point of contact with client, vendors and subcontractors, manage change and support the department manager with designer appraisals and team training
• Support the Lead Piping Engineer with estimates, job scope changes and technical queries, attend project kick-off and review meetings, and monitor the design team remotely if needed
• Lead a project in a multi-office environment (MOPEX) and supervise less experienced designers
• Ensure work follows McDermott requirements, client and statutory design codes, and health and safety policies

Required profile

• High school graduate with a diploma in mechanical design or drafting, or equivalent experience
• 25+ years of oil and gas experience with a major contractor on Pre-FEED, FEED and Detailed Design
• Experience as Lead Designer on medium or large projects and ability to handle multiple projects
• Recognized expert in one or more skill sets, with good leadership and management skills
• Degree holders must provide a degree equivalency certificate from the MoHESR

Required skills

• Advanced expertise in process plant design and 3D CAD, including E3D or SP3D
• Detailed knowledge of AutoCAD
• Familiarity with local regulations and international and national industry standards
• Knowledge of other engineering disciplines and project coordination
