Senior Quantity Surveyor

About the role

The Senior Quantity Surveyor leads cost management and contract administration across several projects within a consultancy. The role covers cost estimates, procurement and tendering, contract administration and strategic cost advice to clients, while ensuring compliance with industry best practice and local regulations. Because the post leads the team, the Senior QS must be able to carry out the duties of both a Junior and a regular Quantity Surveyor.

Key responsibilities

• Pre-contract: take off quantities from drawings and specifications (POMI, NRM), prepare Bills of Quantities and cost plans, review tender documents, evaluate tenders and recommend the most economical option
• Post-contract: review and certify interim payments, assess variations and claims, monitor expenditure against budget, prepare monthly cost reports and final accounts, manage retention releases and closeout
• Act as the client's main commercial contact, present cost updates and coordinate with project managers, designers and contractors
• Identify financial and contractual risks, take part in value engineering and advise on procurement strategy and commercial risks
• Maintain project cost files, monthly reports, cash flow forecasts and executive summaries, and support the Managing QS or Commercial Manager
• Supervise and mentor Junior Quantity Surveyors, review their deliverables and support training and knowledge sharing
• Ensure compliance with contract conditions (FIDIC or equivalent) and professional standards such as RICS and AIQS

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying or Civil / MEP Engineering
• Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in the field
• Proven experience in tendering and Design & Build environments
• Valid driving licence
• MRICS, AIQS or equivalent certification preferred

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of FIDIC contracts and methods of measurement (NRM, CESMM, POMI)
• Extensive understanding of building pathology, construction technology and regulatory requirements
