Senior Software Engineer - Backend

About the role

Dubizzle, part of the Dubizzle Group, is looking for a Senior Software Engineer - Backend in Dubai. You will work in a high-performing cross-functional squad, liaising with other backend engineers, the QA team, the design team and your Tech Team Leads. As a senior member of the team, you will advance the development stack and ensure scale as the platform grows to millions of monthly active users.

Key responsibilities

• Gather an in-depth understanding of the codebase and technology stack within weeks
• Lead planning sessions for new features and define release and rollback strategies
• Research and apply industry trends, and write unit tests according to established standards
• Write and maintain code following the company's programming practices, and contribute to post-release maintenance
• Build complex, high-impact solutions and improve the reliability and efficiency of the codebase
• Influence the technical vision of the stream and mentor peers in a pair-programming environment
• Code review major pull requests, define programming standards and give constructive feedback
• Design and deliver multiple REST-based APIs, with prior exposure to service-oriented architecture
• Handle the full software development lifecycle, lead product planning meetings and architect solutions
• Liaise with other tech teams to share innovations

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering preferred
• 6+ years of professional backend software engineering experience in Python (Django)
• Prior experience with high-traffic, large-scale web products preferred
• Experience with web infrastructure, SOA, distributed systems, performance analysis and search infrastructure
• Strong understanding of design patterns, caching layers and strategies, build processes, CI and testing methodologies
• Excellent communication, prioritisation and analytical skills
