Senior Structural Steel Review Engineer

About the role

SOCOTEC, which supports major infrastructure, construction, urban development and heritage projects in the UAE, is looking for an experienced Senior Structural Steel Review Engineer. The role provides third-party design reviews and technical verifications for building and infrastructure projects such as high-rises, sky bridges, pedestrian bridges, warehouses and canopies, in the UAE and internationally.

Key responsibilities

• Review design calculations, FEA models, connection details, shop drawings, material specifications and quality control plans.
• Ensure compliance with international codes (AISC 360, AISC 341, ASCE 7, AASHTO, ACI 318) and UAE regulations (DBC 2021, ADIBC 2013, RAK 2025).
• Check structural behaviour and serviceability, including global stability, lateral drift, dynamic behaviour and floor vibration.
• Review steel-to-concrete interfaces, shear keys, embedded plates and anchorage connections.
• Attend site visits, design review workshops and coordination meetings with clients, consultants, contractors and authorities.
• Verify temporary works and construction-stage analysis, including steel erection sequences and load transfer.
• Identify business opportunities and help the Commercial team scope projects, estimate resources and prepare fee proposals and quotations.
• Support project reporting, invoicing and financial performance tracking with the Technical Manager and Accounting team.
• Lead QA/QC by auditing engineering submittals and mentoring junior structural staff.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited university.
• 7-12 years of experience as a structural steel specialist, preferably with a steel specialist contractor background.
• Registered Structural Engineer with a local UAE authority (e.g. Dubai, Abu Dhabi or RAK Municipality) preferred.
• Proven track record in structural steel design review, strong technical report writing, commercial awareness and stakeholder management.

Required skills

• Advanced: STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, ETABS, IDEA StatiCa, Hilti PROFIS Anchor, RAM Structural System, Limcon.
• Working knowledge of Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis, Metal Building Software (MBS) and Fischer PROFIS.
• Deep knowledge of AISC 360, AISC 341, ACI 318-19 (Chapter 17), ASCE 7, AASHTO LRFD, DBC 2021, ADIBC 2013 and RAK 2025.
