Senior Supervisor - Commissioning (Mechanical)

About the role

Petrofac, an international service provider to the energy industry, is hiring a Senior Supervisor for commissioning of mechanical systems. The role covers pre-commissioning and commissioning preparation and execution, ensuring safe practices and processes are in place and followed. The company supports flexible working requests and uses a hybrid approach for most office-based roles, asking employees to be in the office at least three days per week.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure commissioning activities are completed safely, efficiently and cost-effectively, and provide day-to-day support to the Commissioning Engineer/Commissioning Coordinator.
• Set up technical teams, monitor progress against schedule, and analyse team performance to advise line management on changes needed.
• Confirm suitable PPE is available, arrange PTW and toolbox talks in line with HSE requirements before work starts, and stay on site to guarantee quality and progress.
• Lead a team of technicians, operators and subcontractors, liaise with other disciplines, ensure transport is available and review spares usage against plan.
• Prepare testing dossiers, drawings and procedures, keep technically updated, and ensure commissioning procedures and company fire, safety and environment standards are followed.
• Identify HSSE risks, control the commissioning area, mark energized systems and assess SIMOPS.
• Accurately interpret P&IDs, process flow diagrams, circuit diagrams and control narratives, and give input to vendors to minimise standby time.
• Execute mechanical commissioning, guide technicians and maintain rotating equipment (vibration, lubrication, mechanical seals, bearings).
• Prepare rotating equipment for first start-up (shipping locks, alignment, packing, greasing, strainers) and assist in preservation and maintenance.
• Assist with lube oil flushing, alignment, vibration checks, mechanical interlocks, pipeline pigging, spring support setting, crane testing, air blowing, flushing, leak testing, flange management and drying/inerting.
• Apply appropriate codes and standards for valve testing and repairs such as API, ASME, NBBI, ISO, BS and ANSI.
