Senior Technician - Laboratory

About the role

Emirates Global Aluminium, the world's largest premium aluminium producer and the largest industrial company in the UAE outside oil and gas, is hiring a Senior Technician for its laboratory in Dubai. The role provides chemical and physical analysis of raw and process materials using wet chemical and instrumental methods, while supporting junior analysts.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse materials and metals chemically and physically, and advise operational departments on process chemical settings and adjustments.
• Perform stability and calibration analyses, interpret results and prepare reports.
• Record all results, report abnormalities to the Chemist/Senior Chemist, and investigate them by duplicate analysis, instrument checks or standard samples.
• Maintain laboratory housekeeping, monitor daily processes and work independently.
• Develop new methods, change from wet chemical to instrumental methods where needed, and set up standard operating procedures.
• Check compliance with Dubai Municipality limits and operational parameters.
• Use equipment such as optical emission spectrometers, spectrophotometers, X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence, atomic absorption, gas chromatographs, fault gas analysers, LECO analyzers and specialized carbon testers, and handle standard glassware and instruments safely.
• Handle dangerous, toxic and corrosive chemicals safely and take emergency decisions.

Required profile

• BSc in Chemistry or equivalent preferred; high or secondary school education is essential.
• 6-7 years of experience in instrumental and wet chemical analysis, including 1 year in a power plant (preferably power and desalination) or an aluminium smelter laboratory.
• Good understanding of the process being analysed and ability to work with little or no supervision.

• Quantitative and qualitative chemical analysis knowledge.
• Operating laboratory equipment and preparing reports from test results.
