SMP Material Handling Operator (MH)

About the role

The Material Handling Operator supports the steel‑making plant by receiving, storing, and delivering raw materials, refractories and scrap. The role ensures smooth material flow, coordinates subcontractor manpower and complies with safety and environmental standards.

Key responsibilities

• Receive and verify incoming materials against shipping/packing documents.
• Visually inspect materials, collect samples for laboratory testing and report any discrepancies.
• Monitor silo levels (visual or via EAF/LF control rooms) and transfer materials between open and closed yards as required.
• Conduct routine inspections of material‑handling systems and report observations.
• Receive, segregate and prepare different types of scrap according to yard plans.
• Estimate scrap quantities for charging and oversee preparation of scrap billets and skulls.
• Manage safe collection, transportation, segregation and stacking of waste and by‑products.
• Ensure proper disposal of non‑hazardous waste in line with environmental regulations.
• Handle, store and deliver raw materials for steel‑making operations, adhering to QS Program, ASME Code and customer specifications.

Required profile

• 3–7 years of experience in material handling or a similar industrial environment.
• Diploma or equivalent technical education.
• Ability to coordinate subcontractor teams and follow strict safety procedures.
• Strong attention to detail for inspection and documentation.

Required skills

• Operation of material‑handling equipment (e.g., forklifts, conveyors).
• Knowledge of ASME Code compliance.
• Waste collection and disposal procedures.
• Silo level monitoring (visual and control‑room systems).
• Sample collection for laboratory analysis.
