Software Engineer (Edge - Devices & Mobile)
Jobgether
Job description
About the role
A partner company, listed on behalf of Jobgether, is looking for an experienced Software Engineer with strong Rust expertise to build and scale a cross-platform device infrastructure. You will develop and maintain a reliable peer runtime across Windows, Android and Linux, with future expansion to macOS, at the intersection of systems engineering, mobile platforms, networking and distributed infrastructure. The role involves significant ownership of critical infrastructure and collaboration with senior engineers and cross-functional teams.
Key responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain a cross-platform Rust peer runtime for Windows, Android and Linux, with future macOS compatibility.
- Manage process lifecycles, background execution, networking, automatic updates and operational stability across unmanaged hardware.
- Lead the expansion to Android devices using NDK and JNI, covering foreground services, battery optimization and mobile network constraints.
- Integrate native networking stacks (Chromium's Cronet and C++) and browserless HTTP clients into Rust libraries.
- Work with OS APIs and FFI, ensuring safe memory management and cross-language interoperability.
- Collect and analyze hardware and OS signals (TCP, TLS, HTTP fingerprints) and build device-level observability and performance metrics.
- Expand peer capabilities to workloads such as CAPTCHA solving and browser rendering while keeping security boundaries.
- Take part in on-call rotations, incident investigation and post-mortems, and contribute to documentation, architecture proposals and engineering standards.
Required profile
- At least 5 years of professional experience developing and shipping production-grade software in Rust.
- Proven experience building cross-platform Rust apps on at least two OSes (Windows, macOS, Android), including at least one mobile platform.
- Strong understanding of OS internals, process management, permissions and background execution.
- Hands-on FFI experience with Rust, C/C++ libraries and native APIs (JNI/NDK, Win32, POSIX).
- Good understanding of secure software design on third-party devices and excellent written communication in a remote-first, global team.
Required skills
- Rust, asynchronous programming and networking (Tokio, Tonic)
- TCP, TLS and HTTP; familiarity with gRPC, Protocol Buffers, mTLS, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure is advantageous
- Nice to have: residential proxy networks, browser internals, distributed systems, web scraping, open-source contributions
What we offer
- Fully remote work with flexible hours
- Flexible schedule within a high-trust, supportive team
- Access to open-source technologies, modern tools and advanced infrastructure
- Opportunities to attend industry conferences and attend to technical ownership and professional development
