Specialist Physician – General Medicine

About the role

The Specialist Physician – General Medicine provides high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centered care within Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City. Working under the supervision of a Consultant Physician, the role also supports the training and supervision of junior medical staff.

Key responsibilities

• Support and adhere to all hospital departmental and divisional policies, initiatives and procedures.
• Participate in performance management processes, including peer review and productivity/utilisation reviews.
• Assist Consultant staff to ensure continuous medical coverage within the division.
• Attend divisional meetings and contribute to incident reporting, investigation and response.
• Diagnose and treat patients according to best-practice standards under Consultant supervision.
• Supervise junior medical staff and share responsibility for their patient care.
• Lead ward rounds, reassess in‑patients and out‑patients, and document clinical information promptly.
• Review investigation results, modify treatment plans as needed, and obtain informed consent for procedures.
• Coordinate with other specialties and support services, and participate in multidisciplinary meetings.
• Provide on‑call coverage on a rotational basis, including evenings and weekends.
