Staff Midwife – Antenatal & Postnatal Care

About the role

The Staff Midwife provides comprehensive antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care to childbearing women and their newborns, adhering to the Midwifery Scope of Practice and the Professional Nurses Code of Conduct for Abu Dhabi. The role supports health education, promotes breastfeeding and contributes to a patient‑centred, multicultural care environment.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver routine and complex maternity care, including risk assessment, identification of complications and appropriate referrals.
• Supervise and mentor practical nurses, practical midwives, junior staff and student nurses.
• Act as a preceptor and in‑charge staff, ensuring safe and effective patient care.
• Coordinate individualized care from first contact through discharge, incorporating evidence‑based practice.
• Promote collaborative practice, interdisciplinary teamwork and cultural sensitivity.
• Administer medications in line with hospital policies and monitor for contraindications.
• Advocate for patient rights, dignity and service excellence.

Required profile

• Registered midwife with a valid licence from the relevant regulatory body.
• Familiarity with Abu Dhabi’s professional code of conduct.
• Strong critical‑thinking, conflict‑management and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to mentor, supervise and act as a role model for junior staff.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and organisational change.
