Staff Nurse – PACU/OT

About the role

The Staff Nurse in the Post‑Anaesthesia Care Unit (PACU) and Operating Theatre (OT) provides age‑appropriate, high‑quality patient care while supporting the hospital’s mission, vision and values. The role involves direct clinical work, supervision of junior staff and collaboration with an interdisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care in accordance with hospital policies and nursing scope of practice.
• Supervise practical nurses, midwives, junior staff and student nurses to ensure safe and effective care.
• Act as a preceptor and mentor for new staff, providing guidance and role‑modeling professional standards.
• Administer medications, including narcotics, following Ministry of Health policies and report adverse drug reactions.
• Identify and respond to changes in patient condition, escalating to physicians or supervisors as needed.
• Coordinate patient care from admission through discharge, incorporating discharge planning.
• Participate in performance reviews, organizational change initiatives and interdisciplinary team meetings.
• Respond to emergencies according to hospital procedures and maintain cost‑effective resource use.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse licensed to practice in the UAE and familiar with the Abu Dhabi Professional Nurses Code of Conduct.
• Strong critical‑thinking, problem‑solving and conflict‑management abilities.
• Commitment to collaborative practice and interdisciplinary teamwork.
• Willingness to act as a role model, mentor and preceptor for junior staff.
• Ability to work in a multicultural environment and advocate for patient rights and dignity.

Required skills

• Medication administration, including narcotic handling and reporting.
• Patient assessment, care planning and evaluation.
• Emergency response and basic life support.
• Knowledge of evidence‑based nursing practice and hospital policies.
• Effective communication with physicians, nurses and allied health professionals.
