Telephone Operator

About the role

The Telephone Operator supports safe, patient‑focused care by managing the hospital’s main telephone and emergency systems. The role involves answering all internal and external calls, directing callers to the appropriate departments, handling emergency code calls, and creating public announcements.

Key responsibilities

• Answer incoming calls promptly, maintaining proper telephone etiquette and a minimum caller wait time.
• Transfer calls to the correct staff or department and update hospital extensions, call lists, and contact numbers.
• Create and broadcast 24‑hour public announcements via the Public Address system.
• Respond to emergency code calls (Blue, Green) and conduct weekly system tests.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and report equipment failures or safety issues.
• Assist new staff with switchboard orientation and support co‑workers through effective communication.

Required profile

• High school graduate with excellent English and Arabic verbal and written communication skills.
• Basic computer literacy and proficiency with the Cerner System.
• Experience or exposure to customer service principles and continuous quality improvement (CQI) and Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) concepts.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and ability to handle patient complaints professionally.
