VTS Manager

About the role

The VTS Manager leads the Waterways Management Control Centre (WMCC) Vessel Traffic Service, ensuring safe and efficient vessel movements within Abu Dhabi waterways. The role oversees compliance with safety and quality standards, manages emergency procedures, and drives continuous improvement of operational processes.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and develop a strong safety culture across the VTS centre.
• Ensure compliance with Abu Dhabi Ports Safety and Quality Management Systems.
• Plan, record and report emergency procedures and incidents.
• Manage financial, technical and human‑resource aspects, including shift rosters and equipment maintenance.
• Oversee VTS software, hardware and related documentation (SOPs, safety maps, risk assessments).
• Implement and monitor Service Level Agreements with internal and external partners.
• Lead a team of VTS operators, conduct appraisals and annual assessments.
• Assess vessel movement risks and develop cost‑effective mitigation processes.
• Drive automation of VTS processes and system upgrades.
• Prepare monthly reports and statistics for senior management.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing a Vessel Traffic Service or similar maritime control centre.
• Strong knowledge of safety, quality and regulatory requirements in port operations.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop technical teams on a shift basis.
• Excellent risk‑assessment and incident‑management capabilities.
• Effective communication skills for public relations and stakeholder coordination.
