About the role
The Water Boss coordinates and supervises all marine support activities for dredging and reclamation projects, ensuring safe and efficient vessel movements and compliance with regulations.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate daily marine operations supporting dredging, reclamation, and construction activities.
- Direct and monitor movement of dredgers, tugs, barges, workboats, and other support vessels.
- Ensure safe navigation and vessel positioning according to approved marine traffic plans.
- Manage vessel arrivals, departures, anchoring, towing, and shifting operations.
- Maintain communication with vessel masters, marine crews, project engineers, and site management via VHF radio and other systems.
- Monitor dredging production and marine logistics to minimise downtime and maximise efficiency.
- Coordinate fuel, freshwater, provisions, crew transfers, spare parts and other marine support requirements.
- Ensure compliance with NMDC Group HSE policies, international maritime regulations and client requirements.
- Conduct daily toolbox talks and promote a strong safety culture among marine personnel.
- Monitor weather forecasts, tide conditions and sea state to ensure safe operations.
- Coordinate emergency response activities during marine incidents.
- Obtain all necessary marine permits, navigation warnings and operational clearances before activities commence.
- Maintain accurate daily operational logs, vessel movement records and marine activity reports.
- Support project planning by scheduling marine resources and optimising vessel utilisation.
- Assist in investigations of marine incidents, near‑misses and operational non‑conformities.
Required profile
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, Maritime Studies or Civil Engineering.
- Proven experience coordinating marine operations for dredging or similar large‑scale projects.
- Strong knowledge of international maritime regulations and HSE procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively with vessel crews and project teams.
