Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) Engineer

About the role

The Airfield Ground Lighting Engineer is responsible for the safe, reliable and continuous operation of airport lighting systems, including runway, taxiway, apron and associated control and monitoring equipment. The role ensures full compliance with aviation safety standards set by the General Civil Aviation Authority and ICAO while maintaining high system availability.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee operation, maintenance and monitoring of AGL systems to guarantee continuous lighting availability.
• Execute preventive, corrective and predictive maintenance on CCRs, transformers, lighting circuits and control systems.
• Diagnose faults, perform troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis for electrical and lighting failures.
• Support installation, testing, commissioning and modification of AGL systems in line with ICAO Annex 14 requirements.
• Ensure proper calibration, alignment and photometric performance of all airfield lighting assets.
• Manage maintenance schedules, inventory of spare parts and critical components.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports and performance logs.
• Develop and enforce SOPs, maintenance procedures and compliance frameworks in accordance with GCAA regulations.
• Prepare performance reports, downtime logs and risk registers for senior management.

Required profile

• Knowledge of GCAA regulations and ICAO Annex 14 standards for aerodromes.
• Experience in operation, maintenance and monitoring of Airfield Ground Lighting systems.
