Applied AI Engineer

About the role

OpenAI’s Applied AI Engineering team is looking for an Applied AI Engineer to work directly with enterprise customers in Abu Dhabi. You will design, build, and deploy AI systems that generate measurable business outcomes while ensuring safety, reliability, and operational readiness.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with enterprise and digital‑native customers to identify high‑value AI opportunities and translate them into technical architectures and implementation plans.
• Design, prototype, evaluate, and launch production‑grade AI solutions, including reference implementations and integration accelerators.
• Make informed technical decisions across models, agents, retrieval, tools, data pipelines, reliability, latency, cost, safety, security, and governance.
• Diagnose complex integration challenges, reproduce failures, test hypotheses, and drive issues to resolution.
• Guide customers from promising prototypes to reliable, scalable production systems with sustained adoption.

Required profile

• Strong technical judgment and hands‑on engineering experience in AI/ML deployments.
• Proven ability to work with cross‑functional stakeholders, including executives, product, engineering, and security teams.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and the capacity to translate business goals into technical solutions.

Required skills

• Write and debug production code.
• Develop and maintain evaluation systems for AI models.
• Integrate AI models into existing enterprise architectures.
• Understand and apply concepts of model reliability, latency, cost, safety, security, and governance.
