Assistant Accountant

About the role

White Star Contracting, a leading landscaping and irrigation contractor in Dubai, is seeking an Assistant Accountant to support its construction finance operations. The role combines analytical expertise with hands‑on accounting tasks, ensuring accurate fiscal records and cost control across multiple projects.

Key responsibilities

• Set up projects in Xero/Project Module with WBS structures and enter approved contract change orders.
• Prepare and maintain cash‑flow analyses and analyse monthly financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash‑flow).
• Maintain the computerized accounting system, provide backup control, and generate reports for the accounting team.
• Download, reconcile, and upload transaction data, budgets, sub‑contracts, job costs, bonds, insurance certificates, lien releases, payables/receivables, purchase orders and change orders from various ERP and operational platforms into Xero.
• Apply GAAP to prepare external and management financial reports.
• Manage accounts receivable, deposits, prepaid/accrued expenses, and process credit‑card and revolving credit statements.
• Maintain the general ledger, prepare collection and billing reports, and ensure proper documentation of all transactions.
• Review monthly job cost and project cost‑tracking reports for accuracy, make corrections, and produce final cost reports upon project completion.
• Monitor cost‑code usage in the ledger, create new accounts or transaction codes as needed.
• Maintain fixed‑asset records and calculate depreciation for capitalised items.
• Supervise inventory control, coordinate physical inventories and cycle counts, and resolve variances.

Required profile

• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to combine data for cost analysis and budgeting.
• Solid understanding of basic accounting principles and GAAP.
• Experience in accounting within the construction industry.
• Certified accountant or equivalent qualification.
• Proficiency in Xero and familiarity with construction ERP systems.
