Associate Director – Vertical Transportation

About the role

WSP in the Middle East is seeking an experienced Associate Director – Vertical Transportation to lead the design and supervision of elevator and escalator systems for a variety of built‑environment projects in Dubai.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver specialist vertical transportation (VT) design and supervision services, ensuring robust, efficient and code‑compliant solutions.
• Conduct detailed traffic analysis using VT simulation and performance‑analysis software to optimise system efficiency.
• Prepare technical design proposals, calculations and client‑facing reports.
• Provide comprehensive site supervision, including inspection and acceptance testing of complex VT installations.
• Coordinate with local authorities, third‑party inspectors and client representatives to secure statutory approvals.
• Review and approve contractor submissions such as shop drawings, as‑built documentation, method statements and O&M manuals.
• Integrate IT, Telecom, ELV and Security system interfaces with VT installations.
• Attend coordination meetings with VT suppliers, subcontractors and project stakeholders to resolve technical issues.
• Monitor progress, prepare weekly VT reports and ensure programme commitments are met.

Required profile

• Qualified elevator and escalator engineer with at least 15 years of experience in VT design and consultancy.
• Strong knowledge of the EN81 suite of codes and standards and working familiarity with ASME A17.1.
• Proven experience delivering VT solutions on large‑scale building projects.
• Ability to liaise with authorities, contractors and multidisciplinary teams.
