Associate Professor of Middle Eastern Studies

About the role

The School of Arts and Sciences at the American University in Dubai is seeking an Associate Professor to lead Arabic language courses and contribute to the Middle Eastern Studies Certificate program. The successful candidate will join a culturally diverse faculty and support the university’s mission of academic excellence in a dynamic, international environment.

Key responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate Arabic language courses and related Middle Eastern Studies subjects.
• Develop and deliver curriculum for the Middle Eastern Studies Certificate program.
• Engage in scholarly research and publish in reputable academic venues.
• Provide academic advising and mentorship to students.
• Participate in departmental service, faculty committees, and community outreach.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Middle Eastern Studies or a closely related field from a Western accredited university.
• Demonstrated teaching effectiveness in a Western higher‑education setting.
• Evidence of scholarly activity or strong potential for future contributions.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate collegially with faculty from diverse disciplines.
