CCM Pulpit Operator – Steel Casting

About the role

The CCM Pulpit Operator is responsible for running the Continuous Casting Machine (CCM) in a steel making plant. Working from the control station, the operator ensures stable casting, monitors critical parameters and coordinates with ladle, tundish and field teams to deliver high‑quality billets.

Key responsibilities

• Operate the CCM from the pulpit according to approved procedures, adjusting speed, mould level and other settings as required.
• Continuously monitor casting parameters such as speed, mould level, tundish level, cooling water, strand temperature and withdrawal speed.
• Coordinate ladle changes and tundish level with the ladle preparation team and EAF/LRF operators.
• Watch mould and strand conditions, identify abnormalities and take corrective actions per SOP.
• Respond promptly to casting abnormalities (breakouts, mould fluctuations, nozzle blockages, cooling‑water issues) and follow emergency procedures.
• Ensure billets meet size, grade and quality specifications, supporting QC and metallurgy in quality investigations.
• Maintain clear communication with the CCM field team, shift in‑charge and other operational groups.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years experience in a steel making plant, preferably in continuous casting.
• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field.
• Proven ability to operate and monitor a Continuous Casting Machine.
• Strong understanding of ladle, tundish and mould operations.
• Capability to work in a shift environment and hand over production to the next shift.
