Coating & Painting Inspector

About the role

The Coating & Painting Inspector will ensure that all painting and coating activities on offshore and on‑shore projects meet the required international codes, standards and client specifications. Reporting to the Team Leader, the role involves close interaction with project managers, technical managers and clients to guarantee quality and compliance throughout the execution phase.

Key responsibilities

• Review and approve contractor’s painting, coating and wrapping procedures.
• Inspect surface profile, chloride contamination tests and monitor weather conditions during coating operations.
• Verify that paint materials are sourced from approved manufacturers and used within valid pot life.
• Ensure application follows manufacturer data‑sheets and approved specifications, including proper time intervals between coats.
• Witness and record dry‑film thickness, holiday and pin‑hole detection using calibrated equipment.
• Monitor surface preparation, bonding agent application, elastomer, CTE coating, heat‑shrink sleeves and neoprene wrapping on pipelines and riser clamps.
• Supervise post‑curing tests such as hardness, spark, sound, adhesion, visual and dimensional checks.

Required profile

• Specialty certification: NACE, CSWIP or British Gas Painting Inspector Grade II (or equivalent).
• Degree/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or HNC.
• Site Safety Induction and Sea Survival Course for offshore sites.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in painting/coating inspection (or 8 years for Engineer Surveyor, 10 years for Senior Engineer Surveyor).

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of international codes & standards: ASME, API, ANSI, ASTM, BS.
• Experience conducting painting/coating inspections according to relevant codes.
• Proficiency in surface profile inspection, chloride testing, dry‑film thickness measurement and holiday detection.
• Ability to use calibrated testing equipment and interpret technical data‑sheets.
