Design & Estimation Engineer - Smoke Management System (HVAC)

About the role

The Design & Estimation Engineer – Smoke Management System will develop accurate design calculations, technical drawings and detailed cost estimates for smoke control and management systems on NAFFCO projects in Dubai. The role ensures compliance with relevant codes and standards, satisfies client requirements and works closely with architectural, structural and MEP disciplines to deliver successful solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design natural and mechanical smoke control systems, including pressure differential, exhaust and containment strategies.
• Perform hydraulic, airflow and thermodynamic calculations to size fans, ducts and dampers according to NFPA, EN and BS codes.
• Create engineering drawings, schematics, layouts and single‑line diagrams using CAD/Revit and coordinate with other disciplines.
• Prepare equipment schedules, specifications and installation details for smoke control assemblies.
• Review tender documents and client drawings to identify scope, risks and coordination needs.
• Develop competitive cost estimates, bills of quantities and tender submissions with clear pricing breakdowns.
• Evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations and maintain estimation databases.
• Support project teams during procurement and construction, attend design reviews and site inspections, and approve submittals and shop drawings.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in design and estimation of smoke control or fire protection systems.
• Proven ability to produce design calculations, drawings and cost estimates for commercial, industrial or high‑rise projects.
• Experience in the UAE or Gulf region and familiarity with local statutory requirements is preferred.
• Construction site coordination experience is advantageous.
