Design & Technology (DT) Technician

About the role

GEMS School of Research & Innovation is looking for an enthusiastic, safety‑conscious Design & Technology (DT) Technician to support its practical DT curriculum. The role involves preparing workshops, maintaining equipment and ensuring that all hands‑on activities are carried out safely for teachers and students.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and set up materials, tools and equipment for DT lessons.
• Assist teachers and students during practical sessions, ensuring safe use of tools and machinery.
• Maintain and regularly inspect workshop tools, machinery and equipment for safety and functionality.
• Conduct safety checks, risk assessments and keep appropriate records.
• Manage DT inventory, monitor stock levels and order materials as needed.
• Store tools, materials and equipment safely and keep workshops clean and well‑organized.
• Perform basic technical repairs, fabrication and provide practical support.
• Support DT displays, exhibitions, projects and school events.
• Identify and report equipment faults, hazards or incidents promptly.

Required profile

• BA degree in Design or a related field.
• Practical experience in a workshop, DT, engineering, manufacturing, construction or a similar technical environment.
• Good knowledge of tools, machinery, materials and workshop practices.
• Confidence working with young people in a practical learning setting.
• Commitment to safeguarding, child protection and health‑and‑safety policies.
