Engineering Design Director

About the role

The Engineering Design Director will lead the technical solution, product, design and estimation capabilities for a lighting and building‑technologies company operating across the UAE, Saudi Arabia and export markets. Reporting to the CEO, the role ensures customer requirements are turned into compliant, commercially viable and manufacturable solutions while maintaining high design quality and margin awareness.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Engineering & Product Design organisation, setting technical standards and deploying resources across regions.
• Oversee solution engineering for bespoke, standard and integrated lighting, controls, home‑automation, audiovisual and building‑management systems.
• Coordinate technical reviews with Sales, Supply Chain, Finance and Customer Services to ensure accurate quotations and handovers.
• Develop and execute the department strategy in line with company objectives and market growth.
• Define and govern the use of standard, configured or bespoke solutions, new product development and technology integration.
• Maintain design quality, constructability and compliance throughout the project lifecycle.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in engineering design within lighting, controls or building‑technology sectors.
• Strong understanding of technical compliance, cost control, margin management and resource capacity planning.
• Ability to manage multi‑disciplinary teams across UAE, Saudi Arabia and international export markets.
• Excellent communication with cross‑functional stakeholders and external partners.
