Estimation Engineer – Firefighting Systems

About the role

The Estimation Engineer – Firefighting Systems will prepare and review technical and commercial estimates for fire‑protection and life‑safety systems. The role involves developing accurate Bills of Quantities, cost plans and tender submissions while ensuring compliance with NFPA, BS and local authority standards.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare detailed estimates and BOQs for wet/dry risers, sprinklers, deluge systems, hydrants, foam systems and water supplies.
• Quantify materials, labour, plant and subcontract packages based on approved drawings and specifications.
• Develop unit rates, labour productivity assumptions and price build‑ups for cost schedules.
• Review design drawings and specifications for compliance with NFPA, BS and UAE Civil Defence codes, identifying ambiguities and value‑engineering opportunities.
• Obtain and evaluate vendor quotations, develop subcontractor scopes and maintain rate databases.
• Prepare preliminary cost plans, budget estimates and sensitivity analyses to support bid/no‑bid decisions.
• Collaborate with project, procurement and design teams to align estimates with programme constraints and hand over data upon award.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Fire Protection, Electrical Engineering, Quantity Surveying or related discipline.
• 2–6 years of experience estimating firefighting, sprinkler and life‑safety systems, preferably on UAE/GCC projects.

Required skills

• Knowledge of firefighting systems: wet/dry risers, sprinklers, hydrants, foam systems, pumps and tanks.
• Familiarity with NFPA standards, BS codes and local authority regulations.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical and hydraulic drawings and specifications.
• Proficiency with Excel‑based estimating and take‑off software.
