Individual Needs Support Assistant (INSA) – Primary School

About the role

The Individual Needs Support Assistant will work closely with teachers to enhance the participation of pupils with SEND or learning barriers across EYFS to Year 6. The role focuses on small‑group and one‑to‑one support in literacy, mathematics, motor skills and language, helping students achieve academic and social progress.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver activities aligned with IAP targets and structured literacy programmes.
• Provide in‑class assistance to ensure differentiated learning is accessible.
• Collaborate with teachers and staff to support pupils with SEND or learning barriers.
• Promote inclusion and acceptance of all pupils.
• Give feedback on pupil progress under teacher guidance.
• Maintain and review records of pupil progress and aid teachers in planning next steps.
• Keep the Achievement Centre environment organized and develop appropriate resources.
• Apply strategies that boost pupils’ self‑esteem, confidence and independence.
• Participate in the Inclusion Team, attend training and parent review meetings as needed.

Required profile

• GCSE in English or equivalent with strong spoken and written English skills.
• Relevant qualification or completed training in education, special educational needs, or teaching English as a foreign language.
• Previous experience in a school support role.
• Availability to work 7 am – 4 pm.
• Strong work ethic and commitment to privacy.
• Good organisational and interpersonal abilities.
• Knowledge of inclusive pedagogies and SEND is an advantage.
• Must be sponsored by spouse/father; contract offers school holidays only.
