Junior Cargo Trader

About the role

The Junior Cargo Trader will support the procurement of marine fuels and blending components for Peninsula’s regional physical ports. This entry‑level position offers exposure to global commodity markets, risk management, and relationship building with major oil companies, refiners and trading houses.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and develop relationships with new and existing fuel suppliers.
• Procure marine fuels and blending components to ensure competitive supply at regional ports.
• Collaborate with internal cargo traders to capture market and arbitrage opportunities.
• Analyse market fundamentals, geopolitics and price structures to inform supply decisions.
• Coordinate supply and blending activities with local operations teams.
• Work with chartering, regional book managers and hedging desks to optimise asset value and mitigate pricing risk.
• Assist the line manager and regional head in defining medium‑ and long‑term procurement strategies.
• Participate in internal and external marketing initiatives as required.
• Utilise MINT and local market intelligence to monitor competitor and supplier flows.
• Ensure counterparties are vetted, approved and financially sound in partnership with the Supplier Credit Team.

Required profile

• Business‑level proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
• Strong verbal communication and negotiation abilities.
• High sense of ownership and accountability.
• Knowledge of residual and distillate fuel pools, feedstocks and their testing procedures.
• Understanding of ISO 8210 fuel specifications.
• Ability to convey key information quickly for decision‑making.

Required skills
