Learning Support Assistant

About the role

The Learning Support Assistant works across the secondary school to support students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. You will collaborate with class, subject and inclusion teachers to deliver effective, inclusive instruction while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to school policies.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise students of determination in small groups or one‑to‑one activities within the classroom or common learning environments.
• Communicate sensitively to promote confidence, independence, and wellbeing, supporting social and emotional skill development.
• Assist with intervention and therapy sessions as directed.
• Prepare and organise learning materials tailored to each student’s needs.
• Monitor progress, provide feedback to teachers, parents, and students, and annotate work with details of support given.
• Administer assessments, invigilate exams, and undertake routine marking of student work under teacher guidance.

Required profile

• Experience or training in supporting learners with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
• Ability to work within a secondary classroom setting and follow teacher‑led plans.
• Commitment to maintain strict confidentiality on all school matters.
• Willingness to attend compulsory weekly CPD to stay effective in the role.
• Understanding of positive behaviour strategies and inclusive learning approaches.
