Media Relations Advisor

About the role

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is seeking a dynamic Media Relations Advisor to lead public communications for its Near & Middle East operations. Based in Dubai with regular travel to Abu Dhabi and the wider region, you will shape and share the humanitarian mission of the ICRC across multiple conflict zones.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the communication strategy for the Near & Middle East region.
• Develop and implement proactive media outreach plans.
• Serve as the primary focal point for media inquiries related to ICRC operations.
• Create and manage messaging and media plans to enhance the public profile.
• Organise journalist interviews, provide quotes and briefings.
• Support global media management during crises.
• Advise and contribute to external engagement and digital strategies.
• Set up senior‑leader media opportunities during field visits.
• Pitch story ideas and develop long‑term content partnerships.
• Collaborate with digital teams on multimedia campaigns.
• Coordinate public communication with Red Cross/Red Crescent counterparts.
• Act as spokesperson for the region.

Required profile

• Minimum 8–10 years of professional communications experience, preferably within a humanitarian organization or media covering humanitarian issues.
• Proven track record in media relations, crisis communications and public affairs.
• Strong understanding of the Near & Middle East geopolitical context.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
• Ability to work across Dubai and Abu Dhabi and travel frequently throughout the region.
