Registered Nurse – Operating Theatre

About the role

The Operating Theatre Registered Nurse provides high‑quality peri‑operative care to patients at Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Hospital. Working closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists and support staff, the nurse ensures safe, sterile, and patient‑centred surgical experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive peri‑operative nursing care, from pre‑operative preparation to post‑operative support.
• Assist surgeons intraoperatively while maintaining strict sterile technique and surgical safety protocols.
• Prepare, check, and manage surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies.
• Monitor patients’ vital signs and clinical status throughout procedures.
• Maintain accurate intra‑operative documentation and update the electronic medical record (EMR) as required.
• Coordinate effectively with anesthesiology, surgical teams, and support staff to ensure smooth workflow.
• Participate in infection control initiatives and reinforce patient safety standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or equivalent.
• Valid DOH/DHA/MOH nursing license or eligibility.
• Minimum 2 years experience in an Operating Theatre, preferably orthopaedics.
• BLS certification (required); ACLS/PALS certification is an advantage.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced/Cardiopulmonary Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – advantageous.
• Proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
• Knowledge of sterile techniques and surgical safety protocols.
