Research Assistant – Live Performance & Creative Practice

About the role

NYU Abu Dhabi is seeking a Research Assistant Fellow to support Professor Joanna Settle’s interdisciplinary projects in live performance, visual arts, curation and creative practice. The role combines artistic research, project coordination and administrative support while offering mentorship for the assistant’s own creative work.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the development and execution of creative projects across the UAE, Asia, Europe and the United States.
• Conduct topical and material research using library resources, online databases and field visits.
• Manage project logistics, scheduling, budgeting, reimbursements and grant tracking.
• Maintain Professor Settle’s inter‑project Google Calendar and coordinate communications with collaborators.
• Support the preparation of research applications, grant submissions and annual research planning.
• Oversee undergraduate and graduate research assistants and contribute to course development.

Required profile

• BA or BFA in an arts practice field or equivalent professional experience.
• Demonstrated advanced abilities as a visual or performance artist.
• Strong organisational and communication skills with a proactive attitude.
• Interest in interdisciplinary artistic research and international collaboration.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Google Calendar for scheduling and coordination.
