Safety Engineer – Rig Operations

About the role

The Safety Engineer will support the Rig Manager in overseeing HSE and Asset Integrity systems on an offshore rig. The role involves providing safety and environmental guidance, developing procedures, delivering training, and ensuring compliance with safe work practices.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct safety orientation briefings for all incoming and departing personnel and ensure familiarity with emergency procedures.
• Assist in creating and maintaining safety programs such as hazard identification, pinch‑point audits, DROPS, and working‑at‑heights plans.
• Deliver safety training sessions, supervise practical exercises, and coordinate emergency drills.
• Maintain life‑saving appliances and safety equipment, perform regular audits, and recommend repairs or replacements.
• Implement and manage the Permit‑to‑Work system, prepare permits, verify isolation and shutdown measures, and conduct gas testing where required.
• Standby on high‑risk jobs, investigate incidents, produce independent assessments, and propose corrective actions.
• Monitor vehicular activity on the rig and advise on unsafe driving practices.

Required profile

• Proven experience supporting HSE functions on offshore rigs or similar high‑risk environments.
• Strong knowledge of safety procedures, permit‑to‑work systems, and incident investigation methods.
• Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training and orientation programs.
• Excellent communication skills to advise rig personnel and report to management.
