Senior Data Scientist

About the role

We are partnering with an established technology company that creates advanced risk and security products for financial institutions and enterprise customers. The Senior Data Scientist will design and improve machine‑learning models that detect suspicious activity, emerging risks and unusual patterns across massive digital interactions. This research‑driven position requires solving complex modelling challenges where positive examples are scarce, patterns evolve over time, and model decisions must be accurate and explainable.

Key responsibilities

• Detect rare risk events across millions of legitimate interactions while controlling false‑positive rates.
• Identify new and evolving patterns before large labelled datasets become available.
• Build models for risk scoring, fraud prevention and anomaly detection.
• Distinguish legitimate changes in activity patterns from anomalous events.
• Engineer signals from large‑scale event, interaction and transactional data.
• Monitor model performance, respond to data drift and update models accordingly.
• Develop explainable models that help stakeholders understand flagged activity.
• Improve the reliability and scalability of models used in production decision systems.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in data science or machine learning with a strong focus on modelling.
• Proven experience building models for fraud, risk, security or other rare‑event problems.
• Strong knowledge of classification, predictive modelling and handling highly imbalanced datasets.
• Excellent statistical reasoning, experimental design and feature‑engineering skills.
• Expert‑level Python programming and solid software‑engineering fundamentals.
• Experience taking models from research through validation to production.
• Understanding of model explainability, monitoring and drift detection.
• Experience with large‑scale behavioural, transactional or event‑based datasets.
