Senior Hardware Design Engineer

About the role

EDGE’s POWERTECH centre of excellence is seeking a Senior Hardware Design Engineer to develop Engine Control Unit (ECU) hardware architectures for advanced propulsion systems. The role involves designing analog, digital and mixed‑signal circuits, creating low‑power supply and voltage regulation solutions, and ensuring compliance with stringent EMC/EMI and environmental standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop hardware architectures for Engine Control Units (ECUs).
• Design analog, digital, and mixed‑signal control hardware circuits.
• Create DSP‑, MCU‑, and MPU‑based control boards.
• Design low‑power supply and voltage regulation circuits.
• Define and manage interfaces between system components, sensors, and actuators.
• Perform schematic design and PCB layout activities.
• Conduct simulation, analysis, and design verification.
• Execute hardware low‑level, functional, and integration testing.
• Prepare technical test reports and support environmental qualification testing.
• Maintain hardware development and certification processes while collaborating with systems, software, test, quality, and certification teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience in embedded and/or control hardware design.

Required skills

• Analog, digital and mixed‑signal circuit design.
• DSP, MCU and MPU based board design.
• Altium Designer, Mentor PADS or equivalent PCB layout tools.
• EMC/EMI‑aware hardware design practices.
• Familiarity with MIL‑STD‑461, MIL‑STD‑810, MIL‑STD‑704, RTCA/DO‑160 standards.
• Knowledge of RTCA/DO‑254 and requirements traceability.
• Power electronics and motor‑drive hardware design (inverter/bridge stages, gate drivers).
• Design for electrical machines such as PMSM, BLDC and brushed DC motors.
• Current and voltage sensing, signal conditioning and isolation techniques.
• Thermal design, power dissipation analysis and component derating for power electronic circuits.
