Senior Shipping Operator – Assistant Operations Manager

About the role

Progressive GE is expanding its international tanker fleet and seeks a Senior Shipping Operator to support and eventually deputise the Shipping Operations Manager. Based in Dubai, you will act as a critical link between chartering, technical, vessel crews and external partners, ensuring smooth voyage execution from fixture to completion.

Key responsibilities

• Manage tanker operations from fixture through voyage completion.
• Coordinate with chartering, technical teams, masters, agents and terminals.
• Monitor voyage performance and ensure charter‑party obligations are met.
• Handle laytime calculations, demurrage, freight claims and voyage reporting.
• Maintain accurate operational documentation and reporting.
• Support day‑to‑day management of the owned tanker fleet.
• Mentor and coordinate junior operational staff.
• Deputise for the Shipping Operations Manager when required.

Required profile

• 3‑5+ years of experience in tanker shipping operations or post‑fixture execution.
• Strong understanding of vessel operations, charter‑party terms and stakeholder coordination.
• Experience with laytime, demurrage, freight claims and fast‑paced multi‑voyage management.
• Seagoing tanker experience is highly desirable.
• Immediate availability or notice period up to one month.

Required skills

• Proficiency with IMOS (Veson) or similar shipping platforms.
• Knowledge of IMO, MARPOL, CII, EU ETS and sanctions compliance.
• Familiarity with SIRE 2.0, PSC, CDI and Oil Major vetting requirements.
• Laytime calculations, demurrage handling and freight‑claims processing.
