Software Engineer – Real‑Time Embedded Systems for Space Missions

About the role

NSSTC is seeking a Software Engineer to develop real‑time embedded software for space‑flight projects, including CubeSats, small spacecraft, UAVs and robotics. The role involves designing, coding, testing and validating mission‑critical applications that run on embedded processors in harsh environments.

Key responsibilities

• Define and document software requirements for real‑time embedded systems.
• Develop, integrate and test C/C++ code, API libraries and software wrappers.
• Create and maintain test benches, test vectors and perform code coverage analysis.
• Evaluate and select suitable real‑time operating systems for space applications.
• Model performance, estimate memory and processing needs, and optimise software.
• Support integration, environmental testing and in‑orbit validation, including fault analysis and patch generation.
• Mentor undergraduate and graduate students and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Travel domestically and internationally as required.

Required profile

• Strong background in real‑time embedded systems for aerospace or related fields.
• Experience with C and C++ development and low‑level programming.
• Familiarity with high‑level modeling languages (e.g., HML) and assembler.
• Knowledge of micro‑processor/DSP hardware and RTOS concepts.
• Ability to work in a team environment and communicate technical information.
