Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teacher

About the role

The school is seeking a Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teacher to support pupils with mild to moderate disabilities. The role involves planning and adapting curriculum, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and fostering social and emotional development.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the educational and social development of pupils under the guidance of the head of department and SENCo.
• Conduct initial assessments, identify individual learning needs and develop Individual Education Plans (IEP).
• Deliver adapted English and Math lessons, ensuring all learners can access the curriculum.
• Support students with autism spectrum, specific learning difficulties, behavioural challenges, hearing or speech impairments, and those requiring assistive technology.
• Collaborate with speech therapists, occupational therapists and other professionals as needed.
• Maintain accurate student records.
• Support emotional or behavioural development and help develop social skills.
• Participate in team and staff meetings and contribute to the school’s ethos.
• Undertake any additional duties reasonably assigned by the line manager.

Required profile

• Relevant teaching qualification and experience working with SEN pupils.
• Ability to design and modify curriculum to meet diverse learning needs.
• Strong collaboration skills with counselors, therapists, parents and school staff.
• Willingness to undergo background checks, references, police and overseas checks.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
