Staff Nurse – Operating Theatre

About the role

The Operating Room (OR) Nurse provides safe, high‑quality peri‑operative care across the pre‑operative, intra‑operative and post‑operative phases. Working in a busy surgical environment, the nurse ensures patient safety, supports the surgical team and maintains a sterile theatre.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare patients, operating rooms, instruments and equipment before surgery.
• Perform duties as a Scrub Nurse and/or Circulating Nurse while adhering to strict aseptic technique.
• Assist surgeons and anesthesiologists by anticipating procedural needs and handling instruments.
• Maintain accurate counts of instruments, needles and sponges.
• Monitor patient condition during surgery and respond to emergencies.
• Ensure compliance with infection‑prevention protocols and surgical safety checklists.
• Support post‑operative handover, documentation and patient transfer.
• Participate in cleaning, disinfection and preparation of the theatre between cases.

Required profile

• Bachelor or Associate degree in Nursing (Canada/USA) with successful completion of the national licensing exam (NCLEX‑RN or Canadian licensing exam).
• Valid DOH nursing license.
• Ability to navigate the Malaffi health information system accurately.
• Accountability for own practice and adherence to evidence‑based care.
