Staff Software Engineer – Migrations

About the role

Paymentology is building the future of payments with a cloud‑native card issuing platform. As a Staff Software Engineer – Migrations you will lead the technical effort to move customers from legacy systems to the new platform, working alongside a dedicated migrations team.

Key responsibilities

• Define and drive the technical strategy for migration initiatives across teams.
• Translate large, ambiguous problems into clear architectural directions and delivery plans.
• Design scalable, secure, and maintainable architectures that meet long‑term product goals.
• Evaluate complex trade‑offs and provide evidence‑based recommendations.
• Create reusable architectural patterns, engineering standards, and sensible defaults.
• Identify and mitigate risks related to reliability, scalability, security, and operational complexity.
• Align dependencies and technical decisions across product, engineering, and operations.
• Partner with stakeholders to shape roadmaps and unblock difficult technical challenges.
• Mentor senior engineers, fostering technical leadership and system‑design skills.
• Lead cross‑team working groups that improve migration processes and automation.

Required profile

• At least 10 years of professional software engineering experience (120 months).
• Proven technical leadership on large‑scale, cloud‑native platforms.
• Hands‑on experience designing and executing complex system migrations.
• Strong ability to influence and collaborate with product, operations, and engineering teams.
• Excellent communication skills for presenting architectural decisions.
