Trainee Marine & DP Technical Surveyor

About the role

This graduate‑level position is designed to develop the technical knowledge and professional competence required to become a Marine & Dynamic Positioning (DP) Technical Surveyor. Working under the supervision of experienced marine surveyors, the trainee will gain hands‑on experience in vessel inspections, marine engineering, DP systems, and offshore operations.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in vessel inspections, reviewing machinery, propulsion, steering, electrical, automation and auxiliary systems.
• Analyse vessel drawings, specifications, certificates and Safety Management Systems.
• Support DP Annual Trials and DP FMEA Proving Trials, including test programme preparation and result recording.
• Develop understanding of statutory, flag state and classification society requirements.
• Learn the principles, redundancy requirements and limitations of Dynamic Positioning systems.
• Participate in offshore marine operations and technical reporting, with travel to shipyards, offshore installations and international sites as required.

Required profile

• Recent graduate with an engineering or relevant technical degree.
• Strong interest in marine consultancy, marine assurance and Dynamic Positioning.
• Willingness to travel frequently, often on short notice, within the Middle East and internationally.
• Ability to work under supervision and progressively take on more complex tasks.

• Dynamic Positioning (DP) systems knowledge.
• Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) methodology.
• Marine Warranty Survey (MWS) concepts.
• Vessel inspection techniques.
• Marine engineering fundamentals.
• Understanding of DP power generation, propulsion and thruster systems.
• Familiarity with control systems, position reference systems and sensors.
