Assistant Civil Lab Technician (QA/QC & Material)

About the role

The Assistant Civil Lab Technician will support QA/QC activities for construction materials, ensuring all laboratory and field tests meet project specifications and standards. This position involves supervising testing teams, maintaining equipment, and preparing accurate reports for the Material Engineer and QA/QC department.

Key responsibilities

• Perform and supervise laboratory testing of soil, aggregates, asphalt, concrete, water and other construction materials in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, BS and EN standards.
• Review, verify and submit test results, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
• Supervise field testing activities such as compaction, density, moisture content, concrete and asphalt testing.
• Coordinate sample collection from project sites, quarries, batching plants and asphalt plants.
• Monitor and support site quality control activities, providing technical assistance to project teams.
• Lead laboratory technicians and assistants, allocate daily testing tasks and monitor performance.
• Maintain, calibrate and service laboratory equipment, keeping calibration records up to date.
• Prepare laboratory reports and maintain testing logs, calibration records and quality documentation.
• Enforce laboratory safety rules and company HSE policies, and coordinate with material engineers, QA/QC engineers, site engineers, consultants and client representatives.
