Assistant/Associate Professor – Bioinformatics & Health Data Science

About the role

The College of Medicine and Health Sciences at UAE University seeks a dedicated academic to advance teaching, research and service in Bioinformatics and Health Data Science.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver courses in Python programming, bioinformatics and health data science.
• Lead and collaborate on research projects involving AI, big‑data analytics and machine learning for genetics and genomics.
• Supervise MSc, PhD and medical students in health data science and bioinformatics.
• Publish findings in high‑impact journals and present at international conferences.
• Develop and enhance academic programmes and curricula in bioinformatics, genomics and AI in health.
• Manage the Health Data Science laboratory, ensuring a productive research environment.

Required profile

• Ph.D. or equivalent in bioinformatics, computational biology, health informatics, data science or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated record of research productivity and peer‑reviewed publications.
• Experience supervising postgraduate students and contributing to academic programme design.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary university setting.

Required skills

• Python programming for life‑science applications.
• Shell scripting and UNIX/Linux system administration.
• AI, big‑data analytics and machine‑learning techniques applied to genetics and genomics.
• Next‑generation sequencing (NGS) and metagenomic data analysis.
• Handling large genomic datasets and bioinformatics software maintenance.
